Why is INORGANIC arsenic the one considered a risk?
  • This research on inorganic arsenic http://oehha.ca.gov/prop65/hazard_ident/hid.html is the basis for California adding inorganic arsenic to their list of known risks. Note that chicken and fish are sited as having more arsenic risk than rice and that the average diet includes as much as 1,000 micrograms of ORGANIC arsenic per day.
  • The study sites that the EPA set an acceptable level of 10ppb (parts per billion) of arsenic in water, assuming that the majority of arsenic in water is inorganic, thus a higher risk than the organic arsenic found in rice.
What is Dartmouth’s study on arsenic in brown rice products, published in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives?
  • This study published February 2012 can be found here. It is one in a series of studies looking at arsenic levels in food. The stated goal of the study is to encourage the FDA to set regulations for arsenic levels in food, which we agree with. Unfortunately, the study has resulted in misunderstandings and unnecessary fear among consumers because:
  • it doesn’t fully address the difference between inorganic arsenic (which poses a health risk) vs. organic arsenic (which is not known to pose a health risk and is actually needed in low levels by the human body as noted here http://www.odh.ohio.gov/ASSETS/642A97FF33894D718A497FDE0C2111F6/arsenic.pdf).
  • it compares the levels of arsenic to incomparable regulations set by the EPA for consumption of 8 glasses of water per day, which far exceeds any amount of brown rice any consumer would ever expect to consume each day.
Why do bars containing rice products have higher heavy metal or arsenic level than our products?
  • Our ingredients are not grown in Pakistan, where the majority of brown rice syrup is imported from and where there are higher levels of naturally occurring arsenic in the water and soil http://wasa.rda.gov.pk/MD_Papers/Arsenic_Paper.pdf.
  • We follow Good Manufacturing Practices, utilize testing at multiple points of production from seed to shelf including 3rd parties and the FDA, and we take all appropriate precautions to ensure the safety of our products with regard to heavy metals as well as other potential contaminants. Our vegan protein bar with brown rice protein contains the necessary warnings as required by California Prop 65 rulings: This product may contain a chemical known to the state of California to cause cancer, or birth defects, or other reproductive harm
  • We also have another version of organic vegan protein bar that is VERY LOW in heavy metals containing protein sources from certified organic Canadian pea and Pumpkin
California Prop 65
  • According to California’s regulations under the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986 (commonly referred to as “Prop 65”, which is significantly stricter than the FDA on many levels) http://oehha.ca.gov/prop65/pdf/Sept2011Status.pdf, there is a “Safe Harbor” list of two classes of chemicals: those that cause reproductive toxicity and those that are considered carcinogens.
  • - The table of “no significant risk levels” for carcinogens lists only inorganic arsenic and does not recognize organic arsenic as a potential for risk.
  • In addition, Prop 65’s requirements are based on exposure, not concentration. The regulations state that human consumption of food does not constitute “exposure” for purposes of warning notification under the Act to the extent that chemicals are naturally-occurring in agricultural products, were not added by any known human activity, and were not avoidable by good agricultural or good manufacturing practices [Title 27, California Code of Regulations, Section 25501(3)(1)].
  • This product may contain a chemical known to the state of California to cause cancer, or birth defects, or other reproductive harm

Is ORGANIC FOOD BAR really organic?

Absolutely, positively, ORGANIC FOOD BAR products are one of the world’s FIRST and only certified organic whole food bars according to the organic guidelines set by the USDA, EU (European Union) and are Canadian, Australian, Japanese and Korean compliant. Many products are touted as “organic,” but they only include a portion of organic ingredients and may also contain synthetic USP vitamin supplements. We think this is disingenuous. We believe that if you say you’re organic, then you should mean it. And, we mean it!

Our certified organic RAW vegan protein powders are healthful and TASTY including our cold pasteurized whey protein powders that are full of flavor!

Why organic?

You’ve probably heard a lot about organic food and farming by now. Like any health or nutrition topic, some of the statements are overblown and exaggerated. However, we believe that most of the positive reports on organic food are true. First, a definition: Organic food is simply food produced according to certain production standards. For crops, it means they were grown without the use of conventional pesticides, artificial fertilizers, human waste, or sewage sludge and that they were processed without ionizing radiation or food additives. There are, of course, different schools of thought about organic food. Some people believe that organic farming is not as “sustainable” as conventional farming because organic farms require more land. However, we feel differently. We believe the arguments in favor of organic food and farming far outweigh those against them. For example, it’s indisputable that organic farming is better for the environment because organic farms do not release synthetic pesticides into the environment; organic farms are better than conventional farms at sustaining diverse ecosystems; and, organic farms use less energy and produce less waste), which is better for producers. Even when pesticides are used correctly, they still end up in the air, underground water and bodies of farm workers. And, perhaps most importantly: we believe without reservation that organic food is better for you. No study has shown pesticides to be healthy and almost all find them to be harmful to human health. ORGANIC FOOD BAR products are made with healthy and organic ingredients. They always have been and always will be.

What makes ORGANIC FOOD BAR different than other bars?

In two words: uncompromising quality. If you are unflinching in staying true to your vision, and this applies to any area of life really, then the end product is as good as it can be. But don’t take our word for it: just read the ingredient list on our bars and compare them to other products. You are what you eat, so please take the time to read, and understand, the ingredient lists on all the foods you buy for yourself and for your children.

What are the ingredients in ORGANIC FOOD BAR and why are they important?

We’ve created a special section of the website called “Experience the Bar.” It will tell you everything you need to know about the healthful ingredients in ORGANIC FOOD BAR products and what they will do for your body and mind.

What is “live food?”

“Live food” is simply food that has not been processed, irradiated or overcooked and contains active ingredients that are beneficial for your health like enzymes, vitamins and phytonutrients. ORGANIC FOOD BARS are considered “live foods.”

What does an ORGANIC FOOD BAR taste like?

This is difficult to explain in words. When most people pick up an ORGANIC FOOD BAR product and read how amazingly healthy it is, their first reaction is that it won’t taste good. That stands to reason: most “healthy bars” taste like the sole of a shoe – but, hey, that’s just our opinion! ORGANIC FOOD BAR products, however, are among the most delicious food bars ever created. We’ve made taste a big, big priority here. First and foremost, they taste incredibly fresh. They are very moist and feel “substantial.” They have a gentle sweet flavor and burst with healthful ingredients that almost immediately make you feel healthier. The body doesn’t lie. Try one for yourself and you’ll see.

I’ve heard a lot lately about “Omega-3 fats.” What are they? And, how much is a healthy level per day?

Omega-3 fatty acids are a family of polyunsaturated fatty acids. While most studies show positive health benefits, there are varying reports on the health benefits of Omega-3 fats. In 2006, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration gave “qualified health claim” status to omega-3 fatty acids, stating that “supportive but not conclusive research shows that consumption of EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease.” Our views square up with what the American Heart Association has to say about Omega 3 fats: “Omega-3 fatty acids benefit the heart of healthy people, and those at high risk of, or who have, cardiovascular disease.” While supplementing with Omega-3 fats is most likely very beneficial to your health, you must be careful not to overdo it. In 2000, the United States Food and Drug Administration Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition noted that the known or suspected risks of EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids may include increased bleeding can occur if overused (normally over 3 grams per day). Our Omega 3 Flax has essential Omega-3 fatty acids from whole food source, BioSprouts®-Flax. Now you do not need to worry about mercury or lead contamination that may be associated with some fish products.

Do omega-3 fats from flax have any health benefits?
  • Yes. Below is a study done by a reputable university in USA.
  • Flaxseed oil increases the plasma concentrations of cardioprotective (n-3) fatty acids in humans.
  • Department of Medicine, Office of Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, Emory University, Atlanta, GA, USA. charper@emory.edu
  • Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) is a major dietary (n-3) fatty acid. ALA is converted to longer-chain (n-3) PUFA, such as eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and possibly docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). EPA and DHA are fish-based (n-3) fatty acids that have proven cardioprotective properties. We studied the effect of daily supplementation with 3 g of ALA on the plasma concentration of long-chain (n-3) fatty acids in a predominantly African-American population with chronic illness. In a randomized, double-blind trial, 56 participants were given 3 g ALA/d from flaxseed oil capsules (n = 31) or olive oil placebo capsules (n = 25).
  • Plasma EPA levels at 12 wk in the flaxseed oil group increased by 60%, from 24.09 +/- 16.71 to 38.56 +/- 28.92 micromol/L (P = 0.004), whereas no change occurred in the olive oil group. Plasma docosapentaenoic acid (DPA) levels in the flaxseed oil group increased by 25% from 19.94 +/- 9.22 to 27.03 +/- 17.17 micromol/L (P = 0.03) with no change in the olive oil group. Plasma DHA levels did not change in either group. This study demonstrates the efficacy of the conversion of ALA to EPA and DPA in a minority population with chronic disease. ALA may be an alternative to fish oil; however, additional clinical trials with ALA are warranted.

What are GMOs? Are they harmful?

A genetically modified organism (GMO) is an organism whose genetic material has been altered using techniques in genetics generally known as recombinant DNA technology. Genetic modification (GM) is the subject of controversy in its own right. Some see the science itself as meddling with “natural” order, while others recognize the inability of modern science to fully comprehend all of the potential negative ramifications of gene manipulation. While some experts believe GMOs are harmful; others do not. Here’s where we stand on this point: Nobody can claim that they definitively know the long-term effects of GMOs on human health; there haven’t been any peer-reviewed long-term studies. So, we prefer to play it safe when it comes to your health. Mother Nature knows best. In the past, we humans have gotten into trouble when we meddle too much with the natural order of things. At ORGANIC FOOD BAR, we stick to all-natural, pure and unprocessed, organic whole food ingredients — and by doing that we know we’re delivering the very best to you with no possible risks of harm to your health. ORGANIC FOOD BAR products are now nonGMO verified

What are pesticides? Are they harmful?

The U.S Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) defines a pesticide as “any substance or mixture of substances intended for preventing, destroying, repelling, or lessening the damage of any pest.” Will pesticides kill you? No, they won’t. Not in the amounts found in most foods. Are they good for you? No, they are not. That’s well established. Some pesticides are very toxic and they have been implicated in the development of some cancers. A study published by the United States National Research Council in 1993 determined that for infants and children, the major source of exposure to pesticides is through diet. A recent study in 2006 measured the levels of organophosphorus pesticide exposure in 23 school children before and after replacing their diet with organic food (food grown without synthetic pesticides). In this study it was found that levels of organophosphorus pesticide exposure dropped dramatically and immediately when the children switched to an organic diet. Sometimes it’s a matter of what’s not in a food rather than what’s in a food. We believe that pesticides are something that should never be in your food.

You make it a point to say “Gluten Free” on your wrapper. What is gluten, and why do you keep it out of ORGANIC FOOD BAR products?
  • After many years of puzzling symptoms, health care providers have begun to recognize the threat gluten is to our system. Gluten is found most notably in wheat, rye and barley. Our diet has steadily increased in gluten consumption over the years. Along with that, many health care problems have arisen which are related to gluten in some people. Not everyone has the same degree of gluten intolerance. Certain individuals are more predisposed than others because of their physical makeup.
  • Symptoms of gluten intolerance are diarrhea, bloating, irritable bowel syndrome, food allergies and fatigue. Other conditions are now being associated with gluten intolerance. Common autoimmune disorders such as Type I diabetes and thyroid disease are linked to gluten. Also the bone and nervous systems can be affected, causing serious health care issues. That is why we make it a point to keep gluten out of ORGANIC FOOD BARS. But, there are two sides to every story and we encourage you to learn both sides and make a decision for yourself. Here is a great article about gluten in the New York Times.
  • ORGANIC FOOD BAR products are tested by an independent laboratory to be <5ppm gluten and are produced in a gluten free certified facility. We are well below the US gluten free claim of <20ppm making ORGANIC FOOD BAR products the best choice for gluten intolerant people.
What is high-fructose corn syrup?

High fructose corn syrup (HFCS) refers to a group of corn syrups which have undergone enzymatic processing in order to increase their fructose content and are then mixed with pure corn syrup (100% glucose) to reach their final form. This is considered a refined sugar, and most nutrition experts believe it is not healthy to consume HFCS. High-fructose corn syrup is a very common ingredient in foods. People are consuming far too much of this refined sugar, and we believe that it is detrimental to their health. ORGANIC FOOD BAR products have never contained high-fructose corn syrup, and they never will.

What is rice syrup? I thought rice was healthy!

Rice syrup is a sweetener derived by culturing cooked rice with enzymes (usually from dried barley sprouts) to break down the starches, then straining off the liquid and cooking it until the desired consistency is reached. It is absorbed into the bloodstream immediately. Brown rice syrup is not suitable for consumption by diabetics, as the glucose and maltose cause rapid rise in blood-sugar. ORGANIC FOOD BAR products have never contained rice syrup, and they never will.

What are trans fats? Are they the same as hydrogenated oils?
  • Trans fatty acids (commonly termed trans fats) are a type of unsaturated fat (and may be monounsaturated or polyunsaturated). Most trans fats consumed today are industrially created as a side effect of partial hydrogenation of plant oils — a process developed in the early 1900s and first commercialized as Crisco in 1911. Partial hydrogenation changes a fat’s molecular structure (raising its melting point and reducing rancidity), but this process also results in a portion of the changed fat becoming trans fat.
  • Unlike other fats, trans fats are neither required nor beneficial for health. Eating trans fat increases the risk of coronary heart disease. For these reasons, health authorities worldwide recommend that consumption of trans fat be reduced to trace amounts or eliminated if possible. Trans fats from partially hydrogenated oils are generally considered to be more of a health risk than those occurring naturally. A simple inspection of ingredients lists on foods such as breads, cookies and other “bars” show how common trans fats are in processed foods. ORGANIC FOOD BARS have never contained trans fats, and they never will.
ORGANIC FOOD BARS are unprocessed. I hear a lot about “processed foods” and how processed foods can be. What does that mean and why are unprocessed foods unhealthy?
  • Food processing is the set of methods and techniques used to transform raw ingredients into food for consumption by humans or animals. The food processing industry utilizes these processes. Food processing often takes clean or harvested components and uses these to produce attractive and marketable food products. Benefits of food processing includes toxin removal, killing enzymes, preservation, adding flavor agents, easing marketing and distribution tasks, and increasing food consistency.
  • In addition, it increases seasonal availability of many foods, enables transportation of delicate perishable foods across long distances. However, the downside of food processing is that is lowers the nutritional value of foods by eliminating or reducing enzymes, vitamins, phytonutrients and probiotics. Some preservatives added or created during processing such as nitrites or sulfites may cause adverse health effects on some consumers. In addition, high quality and hygiene standards must be maintained to ensure consumer safety and failures to maintain adequate standards can have serious health consequences.
  • We believe that food bar products such as ORGANIC FOOD BARS should be unprocessed, since there are so many processed foods in our daily diet. This is why ORGANIC FOOD BARS are higher in enzymes, vitamins and phytonutrients than most packaged foods. ORGANIC FOOD BARS are unprocessed, and they will always be unprocessed.
What is the difference between a “food bar” ,“energy bar” and “nutrition bar”?

This one is simple: food bars contain real food. Most “energy bars or nutrition bars” contain synthetic or processed ingredients. We believe the body functions better on real food, the way nature intended. ORGANIC FOOD BAR™ is the world’s leading organic whole food bar.

What does it mean to be kosher?

Kosher foods are those that meet certain criteria of Jewish law. Invalidating characteristics may range from the presence of a mixture of meat and milk, to the use of produce from Israel that has not been tithed properly, or even the use of cooking utensils which had previously been used for non-kosher food. ORGANIC FOOD BAR is certified kosher, and it always will be.

Is ORGANIC FOOD BAR low in sugar?
  • Ready for some sobering statistics? Unbelievable as it seems, according to the USDA, in 1909 the average American consumed the following: 134 pounds of refined sugar excluding honey, 365 servings of soda pop (638 cans per year for people aged 12-29), 200 sticks of gum, 22 pounds of candy, 63 dozen doughnuts, 60 pounds of cakes and cookies and 23 gallons of ice cream. While you are not likely “average” these numbers speak to the ubiquity of sugar in our diets. Like mom always said: “Everything in moderation.”
  • Small amounts of sugar will not hurt you and in fact it can be beneficial. But, we are consuming sugar in such large volumes, from so many sources, that it’s beginning to overwhelm our bodies. Sugar consumption itself has become a disease. Over-consumption can lead to hypoglycemia, diabetes, heart disease, and chronic tiredness. Balancing the blood sugar is an important part of regaining energy and health. Excess sugar consumption is one of the major causes for fatigue.
  • Not only is sugar a major culprit, the consumption of refined carbohydrates that quickly turn to sugar in our blood is equally damaging.
  • ORGANIC FOOD BAR products contain relatively small amounts of naturally occurring organic sugars in whole food ingredients and these organic sugars are “slow-release” sugars from ingredients like organic dates, organic Cassava (Tapioca), organic berries, organic raisins and our newest LOW SUGAR protein bars that contains organic NuVous (organic Stevia, organic Lycii Berry, Organic Orange Flavor) which is a great deal better for your moods, your body and your overall health.
I noticed there is a moderate amount of fat in ORGANIC FOOD BARS. Why is this so? And, what are “quality fats?”

This is a very important point that we need to make. There has developed, particularly in America, a “fat phobia.” People are afraid of fats because they don’t want to “get fat.” Here is a key distinction to make: there are healthy fats and unhealthy fats. Unhealthy fats include saturated fats found in fatty meats and hydrogenated oils. Healthy fats include extra virgin olive oil, fish oils and oils found in nuts. ORGANIC FOOD BARS contain only healthy fats that come from our nut butters. These kinds of fats are heart healthy, they balance your blood sugar levels and they sustain you for longer periods of time. Think about how you feel when you eat a plate of plain pasta. Not very satisfied. Include some healthy oil, and you’ll end up eating less overall calories, because you’ll feel more satisfied for a longer period of time. An ORGANIC FOOD BAR will sustain you for hours. Most other bars cannot make that claim.

ORGANIC FOOD BAR products have an “alkalinizing effect” on the blood. What does that mean and why is it important?

The American diet tends to be highly acidic. In other words, when you eat foods high in sugar or consume alcoholic beverages, it has an “acidifying effect” on your blood. This may suppress immune system function, precipitate ailments such as osteoporosis and make your body susceptible to diseases. By eating more “alkaline-producing foods,” such as wild salmon, cottage cheese — or ORGANIC FOOD BAR products — you will balance the ph of your blood and that has tremendously positive impact on your overall health.

Some of your bars indicate that they are gluten-free. However, don’t wheat grass powder and barley grass powder contain gluten?
  • Our Active Greens Bar is tested by an independent laboratory to be Gluten Free <5 ppm gluten. The US standard to be claimed gluten free is <20ppm and we are well below that!
  • Wheat grass and Barley grass are gluten free as we only use the tips of the grasses. There is a some gluten towards the stem of the grasses but most grasses are pretty safe. Wheat and Barley grains do have high levels of gluten but grasses are quite different than grains.
I’ve heard a lot lately about “Omega-3 fats.” What are they? And, what are some of the health benefits?
  • The study, by researchers from Harvard Medical School and Charit¨ University Medicine, Germany, published in the journal Carcinogenesis, says supplementation of omega-3 may help and be useful with colorectal cancer (CRC).
  • Joint lead authors Johannes Nowak and Karsten Weylandt found that out of two sets of mice, the group with the highest amount of omega-3 in tissues showed some 15 per cent less inflammation in the colon.
  • CRC is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States and further work in this field could help find alternative to CRC drugs, which are reported to have side-effects over long-term use.
  • Nowak and Weylandt said: “Dietary supplementation with omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFA) may be an effective and safe means of colorectal cancer prevention and it may be an alternative to the use of anti-inflammatory Cox-inhibitors, particularly Cox-2 inhibitors, which exhibit side effects when used for a long term.
  • “Because n-3 PUFA have many other beneficial effects, such as cardioprotective effect, supplementation with n-3 PUFA to prevent colon cancer is a strategy worth pursuing now.”
  • The report adds more evidence to the anti-cancer effect of omega-3 and is the second study in the space of a week which adds support to the role of the oil as suppressing tissue inflammation.
  • On Monday, NutraIngredients.com reported on work by researchers in America, printed in the Journal of Biological Chemistry, which found omega-3 was better at reducing prostanoids than omega-6.
  • Prostanoids, when produced in excess, increase inflammation in various tissues and organs.
  • In this mice study, Nowak and Weylandt found that an increased tissue content of omega-3 dampened colon inflammation.
  • They said: “Our data provides new insight into the mechanism by which n-3 PUFA suppress tumorigenesis through dampening of inflammation and NF-ÊB activity. These results support a protective role of n-3 PUFA supplementation in the prevention of colorectal cancer.”
  • They said: “Our data provides new insight into the mechanism by which n-3 PUFA suppress tumorigenesis through dampening of inflammation and NF-ÊB activity. These results support a protective role of n-3 PUFA supplementation in the prevention of colorectal cancer.”
  • “The findings that increased tissue status of n-3 PUFA reduced colon inflammation and tumorigenesis in the fat-1 mice will lead to future studies to elucidate the molecular interactions and pathways underlying these effects,” the researchers concluded.
How much Omega-3 does ORGANIC FOOD BAR Omega-3 Flax has?

Omega-3 Flax bar contains 3000mg. of Omega-3′s from certified organic and Kosher Sprouted Flax Seeds. ORGANIC FOOD BAR chose a plant source due to the issues with mercury contamination that is common in most of the fish due to polluted oceans and waterways.

I have heard that there maybe benefits of eating flax seed for prostate.
  • Eating flaxseed may help halt prostate cancer growth
  • 4/2007 — Daily consumption of flaxseed may help stop the growth of prostate cancer tumours, according to research presented.
  • Flaxseed, which is rich in omega 3-fatty acids and fibre-related compounds known as lignans, may interrupt the chain of events that cause cells to divide irregularly and become cancerous, suggest researchers from the Duke University Medical Center in the United States.
  • “Our previous studies in animals and humans had shown a correlation between flaxseed supplementation and slowed tumour growth, but the participants in those studies had taken flaxseed in conjunction with a low-fat diet,” said Wendy Demark-Wahnefried, a researcher in Duke’s School of Nursing and lead investigator on the study.
  • “For this study, we demonstrated that it is flaxseed that primarily offers the protective benefit,” she confirmed.
  • The study involved men scheduled to undergo surgery for the treatment of prostate cancer. The researchers gave them 30 grams of flaxseed every day for an average of 30 days.
  • When the men’s tumours were removed, the researchers were able to determine how quickly the cancer cells had multiplied.
  • The men taking flaxseed, either alone or in conjunction with a low-fat diet, were compared to men following just a low-fat diet, and men in a control group, who did not alter or supplement their daily diet. Each group was made up of about 40 participants.
  • Men in both of the flaxseed groups had the slowest rate of tumour growth, according to the researchers.
  • The study was presented at the annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology in Chicago on Saturday. NutraIngredients.com has not seen the full results, and publication status is unknown.
  • “The results showed that the men who took just flaxseed as well as those who took flaxseed combined with a low-fat diet did the best, indicating that it is the flaxseed which is making the difference,” Demark-Wahnefried said.
  • She suggested that as a source of omega-3 fatty acids, flaxseed may alter how cancer cells lump together or cling to other body cells. It could therefore help halt the cellular activity that leads to cancer growth.
  • Moreover, lignans may have antiangiogenic properties, meaning they are able to choke off a tumour’s blood supply and stop it spreading, added the researchers.
  • Participants took the flaxseed in a ground form to make it more digestible and mixed it in drinks or sprinkled it on food such as yogurt.
  • The researchers now hope to test the effectiveness of flaxseed supplementation in patients with recurrent prostate cancer.
  • Over half a million news cases of prostate cancer are diagnosed every year worldwide, and the cancer is the direct cause of over 200,000 deaths. Most worryingly, the incidence of the disease is increasing with a rise of 1.7 per cent over 15 years.
I have a daughter with a peanut allergy and was looking for a protein / nutrition bar that I could keep around for myself and eat that would not cross contaminate her. I know that you do not use peanuts but have the nuts that you use ever come in close contact with peanuts?

Peanut allergies can be very serious — and in rare cases, life-threatening. The almond or cashew butter in ORGANIC FOOD BAR products is made on peanut free line. Organic Food Bar products are however made in a facility that does process Peanuts, Nuts, Tree Nuts and Dairy. Some people that are severely allergic, however, can be allergic to any nut. So, it’s imperative that you check on this with your family physician.

Do you or will you use fumigated almonds from California to make you Organic Food Bars, and if so, will you label them, or do you have sources from other countries?

We do not use California almonds due to the fumigation and pasteurization issues. We will not use fumigated almonds due to possible health concerns. We source all of our ingredients, first-hand, directly from the farmers. This helps to maintain an unparalleled quality of ORGANIC FOOD BARS for our customers.  We import our Almonds from Europe and our Almond butter is prepared according to our proprietary recipe.

When I unwrapped [the bar], I saw that the inside of the wrapping was aluminum. I have been reading some disturbing news about [aluminum]. So, what [are] your thoughts on that?

We go to great lengths to ensure product safety, to maintain our position of being the healthiest bars in the world. Our wrappers are specifically-designed and manufactured to ensure that there is absolutely no leaching of any material into ORGANIC FOOD BAR products and this simply is metalized film. Most bar wrappers have a thin layer of food safe plastic — some have none! — but our wrapper have more than one layer to guarantee that the food inside is perfectly safe and wholesome. We also perform what is known as a “cold seal,” so there is no heat involved in sealing the wrapper. This further ensures a safe and healthy product.

Your packages say “RAW & Organic.” Exactly what percentage of each of your products are indeed raw?
  • We categorically believe that the inclusion of raw foods into one’s diet will enhance one’s health. New research has verified this repeatedly, and the anecdotal evidence overwhelmingly supports the science. Raw foods contain enzymes which greatly aid in digestion, freeing the body’s own enzymes to do the work unimpeded of regulating all the body’s many metabolic processes. Raw foods contain bacteria and other micro-organisms that stimulate the immune system and enhance digestion by populating the digestive tract with beneficial flora. Raw foods also have higher nutrient values than foods which have been cooked. Here are the precise percentages of raw ingredients for each ORGANIC FOOD BAR:
    • Omega-3 Flax (68g.) — 100%
    • Cranberry (68g.) — 100%
    • Wild Blueberry (68g.) — 100%
    • Vegan Bar (68g.) — 100%
    • Original Bar (68g.) — 100%
    • Active Greens (68g.) — 100%
    • Cinnamon Raisin (50g.) — 90%
    • Active Greens Chocolate (68g.) — 80%
    • Protein Bar (68g.) — 100%
    • Chocolate Coconut Bar (50g.) — 80%

The package says product of USA. Are all of the ingredients grown and processed in the USA?
  • ORGANIC FOOD BAR is made fresh daily in our own GMP certified and US-based Solar Powered facility in California. This state-of-the-art facility is certified organic, kosher and gluten free. Organic Food Bar productgs are also nonGMP project verified
  • Our ingredients are sourced from the very finest vendors and farmers in Europe, the United States of America and Canada. We do not use any Chinese ingredients in our ORGANIC FOOD BAR products and we do not contract out any part of our manufacturing process overseas. We understand that food quality and safety is especially important to people, particularly these days in light of recent media coverage. We want all of our customers to know that we at ORGANIC FOOD BAR go to extraordinary lengths to ensure the healthiest and safest products possible. We have earned your trust over the years, and we will continue to do everything to honor and protect your trust and support!
There is no information on the web site to learn what the TM ingredients are. I understand there may be issues of protecting trade secrets but I would like to know something about these ingredients such as Bio Sprouts

BioSprouts is merely a registered name used for all the sprouts we make. We sprout roughly 10 different seeds including Quinoa and Flax, which we add to the ORGANIC FOOD BARS.

Since quinoa is a grain does it not also have the same negative effects on the body as other grains, such as perforating the intestinal lining that can lead to leaky gut?

You can rest assured that ORGANIC FOOD BARS do not contain simple grains as they can be acid-forming and therefore unhealthful. We are unlike any bar on the market and we live up to our promises of being the healthiest bar in the world. That said, we go to the extra time and expense to sprout all of our grains, which makes these “living” grains alkaline-forming – and, as a result: a good deal healthier. Sprouted grain is more of a plant and it is in a powder form.

I’ve tried your Raw ORGANIC FOOD BARS and thought to myself, “these are good enough to eat all the time”. Which raised the question, “could I?” Will they sustain life? Is it possible to eat too many? I’m very overweight and your bars taste a lot better than the “diet bars” I’ve tried.
  • You are right about that! ORGANIC FOOD BARS are indeed great to eat! I consume a few every day myself!
  • The real benefit of a whole food diet, is that our body discards whatever it does not need.
  • At the same time, we must also remember the famous and timeless words of Hippocrates said, “Let Food Be The Medicine.” Our body heals as it gets more of the healthy foods.
  • Diet bars and junk bars out there cannot improve your health. ORGANIC FOOD BAR Inc. is the pioneer of RAW Organic movement and everything else is a cheap copy.
  • We are probably the only organic bar company that makes its own bars FRESH DAILY in its own certified organic and kosher facility. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at your convenience.
  • I may be the Founder and President of the company, but I always have time for customers!
  • Thank you for your support.

Is the glue used in seal of your wrappers safe?? We buy your bars by the metric ton and some our family member may be “inadvertently” eating some of the glue. Thanks for the help! Again — our family of four love your products.

ORGANIC FOOD BAR goes to extraordinary measures to handcraft the world’s healthiest and “cleanest” bars. We also spare no expense to protect our customers, who we consider family. You will be pleased to know that the cold seal cohesive we use on all of our wrappers is approved for use with food products.

I have noticed that some of your products are marked Vegan and some are not. Are all products Vegan or just the ones marked? I love your stuff and thanks for making Vegan organic products.

Absolutely no ORGANIC FOOD BARS contain any ingredient from animal sources. The reason we do not represent our bars with chocolate chips as VEGAN is because they are made on shared equipment that also makes dairy chocolate. We hold ourselves to the highest standards of integrity and “Truth in Advertising.” That is why we are so careful about what we say on our labels. Keep in mind that we handcraft our bars in our own certified organic and kosher facility (which is exceedingly rare in this business). We also thoroughly clean the machines between productions. However, there may be trace amounts (in extremely low PPM (parts per million)) of dairy. Otherwise, our chocolate chips are dark chocolate and are non-dairy. Thank you for your question, and for your support!

I purchased several boxes of your Active greens bar and have been enjoying them greatly. I am giving serious consideration to consuming one every day as a convenient and healthy lunch.

ORGANIC FOOD BAR products are the healthiest choice for a balanced organic meal. Unlike other companies we make our bars fresh daily in our own facility that processes no soy, wheat or gluten. ORGANIC FOOD BAR started the raw organic movement back in 1997 and we are not sold in over 30 countries worldwide. ORGANIC FOOD BAR is the most imitated but never duplicated. Organic Active Greens ORGANIC FOOD BAR is definitely a good choice with all the Superfoods loaded with nutrition. You are definitely doing our body good!!! Thank you for your support. ENJOY!

Can you please tell me what the difference is between your organic and raw organic bars? I’ve tried the organic bars but not the raw organic ones.

Our 68gram ORGANIC FOOD BARS contain almond butter as a base. Our 50gram RAW ORGANIC FOOD BARS contain cashew butter. Since cashews cost less than almonds, the pricing is better. If you want the best possible bar, then our 68gram bars with almond butter are the choice to make due to the superior alkalinity properties. At the same time, the RAW 50gram bars are without question the best value and the healthiest product in this price category.

What are BioSprouts and what types and how do you use them in your bars?

Our BioSprouts Flax and Quinoa are made in our own facility in Austria. Sprouting activates the seed and increases the vitamins, enzymes, lignans and phytonutrients considerably. An unsprouted seed is basically in a dormant stage with a very low nutritional value. Sprouting (germination) literally brings the seed alive! And, that brings you alive! Eating RAW Living Foods makes a HUGE difference for your body and your life.

I read on your website that you don’t use soy lecithin in your products anymore. What do you now use as a binding agent?

We do not use Soy Lecithin anymore — and, this is a little known fact — most, if not all, soy is GMO contaminated, even the organic variety! Few food companies make changes on the fly based on a changing world. But, ORGANIC FOOD BAR is constantly making adjustments to bring the most current and updated findings to the health of our bar. This is the reason we removed soy from all our products. ORGANIC FOOD BAR stands alone as the pioneer and leader of RAW organic movement since 2001. And, that commitment is stronger than ever within a food industry riddled with compromise. When it comes to your health — your most precious asset — ORGANIC FOOD BAR makes no compromises.

I am in the process of putting together an emergency kit with emergency rations and I was wondering if your food bars would be appropriate for that purpose – say, for a period of two weeks. Canned food just seems heavy and otherwise impractical, and food bars and similar products that I’ve seen in stores are loaded with saturated fat and high fructose corn syrup and other ingredients that I normally try to avoid or minimize.

ORGANIC FOOD BAR products are arguably the world’s best emergency food! First of all, they are light and conveniently-packed. They are also packed with nutrition! Our bars are perfectly-balanced and are a good source of complex carbohydrates for sustained energy. Given that they are whole food, they are also nutrient-dense, making them ideal for sustaining health over a period of many days during an emergency. Non-refined low Glycemic whole food sweetness from Premium Agave Nectar and healthy fats help maintain a healthy cardiovascular system, while soluble and insoluble fibers from almonds and sprouted flax, sustain a healthy digestive system. Of course, ORGANIC FOOD BARS are loaded with vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients from nutritionally dense organic whole foods. And, the bars taste exceptionally good! ORGANIC FOOD BAR products are a perfect choice for a healthy, active lifestyle – in addition to being the perfect “emergency food”!
Enjoy!

I need a bar that has no sunflowers or sunflower oil, no sesame seed or sesame seed oil and no cashews. Do you have any?

Our 68gram ORGANIC FOOD BARS do not contain any of those ingredients; there are total of nine delicious varieties sure to delight your taste buds! Please visit http://organicfoodbar.com/products to see all the available flavors. Thank you for your support…and Enjoy!

What does ‘cold processed’ mean with implications to nutritional value of product?

Cold processed means that ORGANIC FOOD BAR products are not baked. Moreover, the ingredients are not made over 118 F. This means ORGANIC FOOD BAR is alkaline-forming, high in vitamin and enzyme content and easily digested. The ingredients you find in ORGANIC FOOD BAR products are very high quality and cannot be compared with any other bar. We have never used any Chinese ingredients from the start when we effectively pioneered the RAW organic movement back in 2001. Everything else you see on the shelf is a cheap copy. Unlike most companies, ORGANIC FOOD BAR products are made fresh in our own facility that processes no Peanuts, Wheat, Gluten, Dairy or Soy.

When you say something is “raw”, do you mean uncooked, unprocessed? Is this always safe? Do you have a thorough washing or cleaning process for the fruit, seeds etc?
  • When speaking of commercially-available food, the designation “raw” means uncooked and unprocessed at temperatures under 115-degees Fahrenheit. Of course, there is proper and thorough cleaning and washing of all ingredients before they are used in food manufacturing.
  • One key aspect to remember is that most bacteria is beneficial to humans and only a very small percentage is harmful. If you pasteurize or irradiate food, you lose and kill the friendly bacteria present in raw foods along with most vitamins, enzymes and phytonutrients. Dead food really isn’t beneficial to humans or animals since it lacks proper nutrition necessary for our bodies to function (Think in terms of the three “R’s”: Rebuild, Repair and Regenerate).
  • Most of the salmonella scare has stemmed from commercial farms and NOT organic farms. When commercial “Big Business” farmers abuse farming methods, this is what happens. All the Feed Lots, Chicken Farms, GMO crops, Chemical Spraying just does not work. Instead, it destroys the fertile soil and beneficial organisms which we need. One example is the dramatic reduction or “die-off” in bee colonies. All the countries that practice these abusive farming methods have issues with bee colony die off. If we don’t have bees to pollinate our crops, we will be left with basic grain foods and most of the fruits and vegetables will die off.
  • Of course, there is some food that we should cook and eat and most of these kinds of food are meat and fish products, depending on how fresh they are and how the animal was raised.
  • Balanced organic raw living foods give life. Remember: Live Food Live Body, Dead Food Dead Body.
